How to Ensure Your Vehicle Isn’t Damaged During Towing in Franklin, TN; Roll Up Car Windows & More

No one wants to think that there will be a time when your vehicle needs to be towed. Unfortunately, accidents happen or vehicles breakdown and there is no other solution than towing. If the towing company you have chosen isn’t careful during the towing process, you could end up with a vehicle that has sustained damage when all is said and done. Heithcock Towing is here to share some tips to make sure your vehicle isn’t damaged at all when being towed.

Do Not Engage the Emergency Parking Brake!

There are two ways that you can have your vehicle towed; flatbed towing and wheel lift towing. When you have your vehicle towed using a flatbed tow truck, you don’t have to worry about having the emergency brake on. In fact, you don’t want your vehicle to fall off the bed of the truck and the towing technician may pull the emergency brake to keep it from moving at all. Wheel lift towing is something the method of choice though, and tends to be more cost effective if your vehicle will allow it. When your vehicle is being towed using wheel lift towing, there will be two wheels that are still on the ground as the vehicle is being towed. If your emergency brake is on, it could end up damaging your vehicle. In fact, you don’t want your vehicle in the park position either if the two wheels that propel your vehicle forward are the two on the ground. If you have a manual transmission, it doesn’t matter which two wheels are on the ground as long as the car in in neutral.

Roll Up Car Windows Before Being Towed

If your car hasn’t been in an accident and all the windows are still intact, you should make sure they are rolled up before the car is towed. This is often overlooked and not many people think about it, but there are a lot of dust and other debris that can make its way into your car if your windows are rolled down.

Take a Picture Before Getting Towed

It has never been easier to snap a picture at any given moment. When you have to have your vehicle towed for whatever reason, it is wise to take a picture of it first. Then you can see what condition your vehicle is in and you can prove that any damage from then on was caused by the towing company and not you. This could become valuable evidence that your vehicle wasn’t damaged before being loaded onto the tow truck.
